Director Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims), Dr. Kameshwar Prasad, warned senior students against taking out freshers in the campus. He said anyone found violating the rules would face prosecution.
Speaking to a group of Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) students on Wednesday, the Principal said that every year 240 students apply for MBBS and BDS courses at Rims and the management has adopted a zero tolerance policy for dishonest behavior to maintain a cordial atmosphere in the campus. He said, “Seniors should take care of new students and always remember that their participation in guessing would lead to action under the law. Once he is found guilty, no appeal will be entertained."
The Rims' management has also formed an anti-ragging unit, which conducts surprise inspection of hostels and adjoining areas to check for rule violations. It may be noted here that new batches of MBBS and Dental Science students joined Rims a few months ago. The principal had also earlier informed the new batch of MBBS students about anti-guessing rules during their induction programme.
A former student of Rims and the current state president of IMA's youth wing, Dr Vikas Kumar said, “When I joined in 2002, I went through the worst forms of upheaval. Currently, such incidents are negligible, which is a positive change.”
In September 2021, the Rims Anti-Fighting Committee found eight students guilty after conducting a thorough investigation into a complaint received from a junior group. Action was taken against senior students. Such incidents were often reported from the Rims, but in most cases no official complaint was made by the victims.
